Water & Carbon
Cullen Capital identified the need for water and carbon management as strong growth areas for the Australian economy and where we could apply our expertise in the financial analysis of alternatives and the funding of infrastructure. Cullen Capital has entered into a strategic alliance with Bonacci Water to provide a complete service offering for clients in these areas (www.bonacciwater.com).
Bonacci Water is a division of Bonacci Group headed by Dr. Peter Coombes, one of Australia’s leading scientists and authorities on water. Bonacci Water provides policy development, strategic, and economic advice and design services relating to integrated water cycle management and water sensitive urban design.
Initially, Cullen Capital undertook a comparative analysis of sustainable integrated water solutions and traditional centralised supply for Armstrong Creek a large development near Geelong in Victoria. It provided clear evidence that the sustainable integrated solution has superior financial and supply characteristics to centralised proposals and identified the adverse impact of large project time lines on the affordability of housing. Cullen Capital is continuing its advisory work on specific developments in the area.
Sixteen Regional Councils in New South Wales (CENTROC) awarded a contract to advise on “drought proofing New South Wales” to a group including Cullen Capital. Work commences on this project in 2009.
Cullen Capital is currently actively engaged in discussions with Councils regarding the introduction of sustainable integrated systems both for greenfields sites and retrofitting to solve pollution and other problems.
Alan Cullen has spoken at a number of forums including a Seminar on Partnerships for Sustainable Water Management organized by Stormwater Victoria, the Sustainable Integrated Water Cycle Management Forum, Sunshine Coast and the Victorian Desalination Seminar. He is currently writing on the subject of costing methodologies in water infrastructure.
